Women love the Wii

Honestly, I didn't even need to add the text here. I'm not saying that girls don't play games. I'm saying is that this depiction of women playing games plays into the same thing as babes in beer commercials. There is nothing progressive going on here in terms of race or gender.

I disagree.

First, I cannot find the original, non-doctored version of this ad. Does it exist? I know Nintendo did not add the tag "bi-curious girls love it," as that is not Nintendo's marketing strategy in any way shape or form. Furthermore, Nintendo uses a font that is not in fact Arial, which is what this ad is using for all its captions.

I don't even know where you found that picture; it's hosted on the Blogger site of a religious blog with one post in October and no further postings.

But let us assume that the ad is not, in whole, faked, just the text. If Nintendo did take a picture of two women playing with a Wii zapper, I don't see what the problem is.

Looking at the dress and demeanor of the women in the Wii ads (and I was just watching a video demo of the Wii last night), the impression I got is that young career women could enjoy casual gaming with the Wii without feeling nerdy.

The models in the ad you show are not stunningly attractive; they are not Heavy Metal bikini'd or busty; they are wearing shirts that, if you haven't noticed, basically all non-fashion-autistic women are wearing these days. These are, in marketing speak, everywomen.

While there is nothing "progressive" going on in this ad, insomuch as it makes not statement regarding an increase in gender equality, there is also nothing regressive - there is no objectification of the women by Nintendo.

If the point you're making is that people on the internet who slap captions on things can be chauvenists, then you made it in your last post, but I don't know where you're going here.
